Finding New Life In Old Movies Thanks To HD

One of the most enjoyable pleasure I have found in life is watching the classic old black and white movies. To me there is nothing better than sitting back in my favorite chair and watching a classic, especially if it’s a historical classic. Who doesn’t love the Norma Shearer classic; “Marie Antionette”? When HD was introduced I knew that the newer programs would have a wonderful, sharp quality to them, but I never imagined what HD was going to do for my classic movies.
When I first saw “Marie Antionette” on regular direct TV I was blown away. The sheer pageantry involved in the production was fantastic, even in black and white the costumes, jewelry and scenery were spectacular. Then, a couple of months ago I was watching TMC on an HD television and when “Marie Antionette” began I was speechless. Although it was in black and white I was so amazed at the quality and clarity of the picture. I was able to see every small detail in the elaborate costumes and noticed even the smallest setting on the jewels.
I couldn’t imagine that a black and white movie could become so clear in detail, even with HD. This movie is almost 80 years old and I felt as if I were seeing it in one of the movie palaces of yesteryear.I appreciate the guest post, Marian Combs
