Security for college basketball

by admin on Sep.04, 2010, under Business

I have one of the most coveted jobs in sports. I work as a security guard in the coliseum where one of the country’s top college basketball teams call home. Even though I’ve been a fan of the team for quite a while, I didn’t set out to work in the arena. I simply knew a friend who knew someone when there was a job opening.

I’ve been there for over a decade now, which has let me see some amazing wins and devastating losses, which are even worse for me and my co-workers because then we have to deal with angry and disappointed spectators. But I think in the end it’s worth it.

Last season at one of the last home games I noticed during a half-time presentation for the women’s field hockey team that had just won a championship title that I was having some trouble communicating with the other security guards. It ends up that it was my hearing and not my head set that was the problem. After the season ended I got a free hearing test and some digital hearing aids.

The college semester is just starting and we have a pretty promising lineup. I can’t wait for basketball season to start!Guest post written by Henry Williams
